Hi everyone,

I applied for the GitHub Student Developer Pack on April 27, 2026
and my application has been pending for 14 days with no update.

My situation:

• Student in Hungary
• My school doesn't provide student email addresses
• Submitted document verification instead
• Still showing "pending review" after 14 days

I tried contacting support but was redirected here.
Could anyone help look into this?

The delay you're experiencing is quite common, especially for manual document verification. Although GitHub aims to be fast, manual reviews (when you don't have a .edu email) can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks, especially during peak application periods (such as the beginning of semesters). 14 days is still within the “normal” timeframe for document-based verification.

In your case, the documents may take a bit longer because of the specific situation in Hungary: since your educational institution does not provide email addresses, the team needs to manually verify the validity of the submitted document according to Hungarian educational standards.
The quality of the document can also affect this process. If the document is not in English, or if the enrollment date/status is unclear, it gets placed into a stricter review queue.

What you can do for now:

DO NOT submit a new application: submitting another application while one is still pending may reset your position in the queue or flag the account for automated review.

Check your email/notifications: sometimes GitHub requests additional information via email, which does not always immediately reflect as a change in the “Pending” page interface.

Check your profile: make sure the name on your GitHub profile matches exactly the name on your school documents.

If the process exceeds 30 days, I would recommend opening a ticket with GitHub Educational Support.

For now, I’d just wait if I were you.

Thanks. Do you have an official GitHub source for the 2-4 week timeframe or the Hungary-specific manual review queue?

I’m trying to avoid guessing because GitHub’s docs only say that school-issued email OR student-status documents are accepted. They don’t seem to publish a document-review timeline.

I’m not going to submit duplicate applications or post private documents here. I’m mainly trying to find the correct official route if a document-only application stays pending and the dashboard gives no edit/upload/cancel option.

Sorry man, I don't have any official source from GitHub regarding the 2 to 4 week timeframe. I just assumed that based on how long it took for me and people I know to get reviewed.

Since you didn't apply using an educational email address, I think it's somewhat unlikely that they'll approve it (especially since you mentioned that you're unable to submit any additional documents).

I have a friend who had a problem similar to yours. He told me that he contacted his school directly and had them send the documents straight to GitHub (unfortunately, I don't have any details on how this was done). I also suggest that you keep insisting with your school to provide you with an educational email address, if possible.

Thanks for clarifying. I did apply with a student ID/document, so I’m not trying to verify only through a personal email.

GitHub’s docs say student-status documents are accepted, so I don’t think lack of an academic email alone should make the application unlikely to be approved.

My concern is that the application is pending and the UI gives no way to upload a clearer/current document if the original proof is not enough. I’m trying to find the official next step for that.

Hi, you’re probably not alone here — document verification reviews for the GitHub Student Developer Pack can sometimes take longer than expected, especially when applying without a student email address.

Since you submitted official documents instead of using a school email, manual review is usually required, which may explain the delay. Unfortunately, 2–3 weeks pending is not uncommon during busy periods.

You’ve already done the right thing by contacting support. At this point, the best option is usually to wait for the review team to process it. If there’s still no update after another few days, you could try reopening your support request and include:

• Your GitHub username (@osfv)
• Application date (April 27, 2026)
• Mention that your school does not provide student email accounts

Small clarification: I did submit student ID/document verification as part of the application. So my issue is not that I failed to provide proof.

The application is still pending after 16 days, and I’m trying to understand the official process/timeline for manual document verification when no academic email is available.

I’m specifically looking for an official GitHub answer or documentation on whether GitHub will request more information if the student ID is not enough, and whether there is any escalation path if Pending continues.

Additional context: my Hungarian student ID is bilingual Hungarian/English. The front side identifies it as a Student Identity Card and shows my name, photo, student ID number, and training method as full-time.

The current validity sticker/date is on the back side, but the application only allowed one image upload, so I uploaded the front side.

What is the official process for document verification when a valid student ID requires both sides to prove current enrollment?

The main question is not the wait time. It’s that my student ID has the identity/student-card information on the front, while the current validity sticker/date is on the back, but the application only allowed me to upload one image.

I’ll keep the discussion there so the issue is clearer.
